Kesalahan lazim dalam bahasa Inggeris
Assalamualaikum dan Salam Sejahtera semua

Sejajar dengan permulaan Kursus Mahir bahasa Inggeris Dalam 6 Bulan cikgu yang akan bermula bulan depan di Sunway dan Putrajaya, cikgu akan postkan kesalahan-kesalahan biasa atau common mistakes dalam bahasa Inggeris.

1. “Everybody are happy.”

Perkataan-perkataan seperti everybody, somebody, anybody, nobody adalah singular dan bukannya plural. Walaupun “everybody”merujuk kepada ramai orang, ianya digunakan dengan singular verb – oleh itu ayat yang betul ialah “Everybody is happy.”

2. “I’ll explain you the problem.”

In this sentence, there are two objects – the direct object (the problem) and the indirect object (you). After explain,we need to use to before the indirect object – the person to whom we are doing the explaining. Also, it’s more common to put the direct object first, so the correct sentence is “I’ll explain the problem to you.”

Dalam ayat ini, terdapat dua objek - objek langsung (the problem) dan objek yang tidak langsung (you). Selepas explain, kita perlu gunakan to sebelum objek tidak langsung - orang yang kita sedang menjelaskan. Selain itu, ia adalah lebih biasa untuk meletakkan object langsung dahulu, jadi ayat yang betul ialah “I’ll explain the problem to you.”

3.“I have the possibility to study in Canada next year.”

With “have,” we use opportunity, not possibility– so the correct sentence is “I have the opportunityto study in Canada next year.” The word possibility is more used with “There is…,” for example, “There’s a possibility I may study inCanada next year.”

Dengan perkataan “have,” kita sepatutnya menggunakan opportunity, bukan possibility– oleh itu, ayat yang betul ialah “I have the opportunityto study in Canada next year.” Perkataan possibility lebih digunakan dengan “There is…,” for example, “There’s a possibility I may study inCanada next year.”
4. “I think she doesn’t like tomatoes.”

Although there’s no specific grammar rule here, it’s more common to say “I don’t thinkshe likes tomatoes.”

Walaupun tidak ada peraturan tatabahasa tertentu di sini, ia adalah lebih biasa untuk mengatakan “I don’t thinkshe likes tomatoes.”

5. “If I will see John later, I’ll give him the message.”

Although both events are technically in the future, this sentence should be in the first conditional form – “If I see John later, I’ll give him the message.”

Walaupun secara teknikalnya, kedua-dua perbuatan berlaku di masa hadapan depan, ayat ini perlu dalam bentuk first conditional.
