Hazy gloomy weather
The recent haze that blanket most parts of the country has been everything but pleasant. But apart from face masks, air purifiers and plenty of fluid intake, even our vehicles need some little extra care during these tough times. Here are 6 basic areas to keep an eye on.

1. Clean windshield/windows
A hazy atmosphere has lots of small particles consisting of dust, ash, smoke etc. These will later settle down onto any exposed surface including our windows and windscreen which further deteriorates our view. The best time to clean them is in the morning after most particles have descended during the cooler nighttime.

2. Top up windscreen wiper washer fluid
The more one uses the windscreen washer, the more constant you need to refill them. Turning on the wipers without water or any cleaning element may lead to scratches as it wipes across the glass.

3. Cabin Air Conditioner Filter Element
Most aircon fitted cars come with a filter element located within the dashboard, behind the glove box, or under the wiper penal. A good vacuum or worst a new replacement would ensure that the air circulating in the cabin is kept as clean as possible.

4. Engine air filter
As the name suggests, the air filter is a vital for the engine to breathe easily. A clogged filter element is an invitation for poor acceleration and fuel consumption to an already grey day.

5. Ensure lights (main, hazard & signals) are in working order
With poorer visibility for all, it is vital for all lights to be functioning even if you drive during the day. After all it is always better for surrounding motorist to be aware of your presence. Replace any burnt blubs or fuses as soon as they are detected.

6. Brakes
A well sorted braking system is always a welcome especially when they are likely to be applied more often in current conditions. Fading or spongy brakes could be signs of a leaking brake line or servo pump, while squeaking brakes may suggest worn brake shoes/pads and discs.
