Did You Know Auto Parts Can Expire?

By 6 days ago

It is common that most of us failed to check on the manufacturing date or expiry date whenever we are out shopping at the hypermarket. However, have you ever checked or asked when are the auto parts or car accessories expiring when you are buying them? Like most of the products in the market, such product also possess a life span in which if exceeded, will not function as effectively as before, thus needs to be replaced as soon as possible.

The old saying states that if you are able to maintain your car properly, it is going to work just as fine as before. However, such conventional thoughts had to be discarded, because running a vehicle with aging or deteriorating auto parts, might land you with greater fees in the future. This is because, the aging parts will eventually strain other car components that are healthy, thus minimising the life span of those auto parts. Therefore, we had gathers a check list to assist you in determining what auto parts and accessories you need to change over a period of time.
1. Child seats

A child’s seat is not manufactured in a way that it will last forever; over a period of time, the base or the structure of the seats will develop cracks or become weaken which will be shattered any time, especially during a hard collision; and the belt that is used to secure the child might become less elastic thus, putting your child at risk. Therefore, take note that most of the child seats have an expiry date stamped at the base of the seat. If not noted, usually the life span of a child seat is 6 years after its manufacturing date.
2. Air con refrigerant

Usually, when you are at a service centre, it is advisable to check your car conditioning system. But most of the people tend to ignore such process and only conduct a check up when the air discarded by the air conditioning system is not cold. However, gas recharge is a required process from time to time to ensure the cold surrounding in the vehicle.
3. Cabin air filter

Generally, the life span of a cabin air filter differs according to the quality and circulation of air inside the car. But it requires replacement after a car is being driven up to 25,000km or 30,000km. An obvious need to change is when the defrost function is on, but the air flow inside the car is still rather weak; or when you pump up the blower switch to the highest, all you can hear is a loud noise with a mild flow of air.
